They might get worried if Saints Row one day sells more than 10,000 copies...

In reality, Saints Row 3 was the most hyped Saints Row game, and it took them several months to sell as many units as GTA IV did in it's first few hours... (HA)

And Saints Row 2 took a year to sell less copies than GTA IV sold in it's first day.

The original Saints Row (which was considered a commercial success) has never beaten the sales that GTA IV reached in it's first day. Ever.

WOW! Rockstar has some tough competition there! :luis:

This game was well worth platinuming imo. I really enjoyed getting to 100% and hope they bring something out at this standard with the next SR title.

I always thought they tried too hard with sr1 & sr2, but the third hit the niche i think, it's not GTA and now they have mad something in the right style that GTA fans will love but wont treat it like a GTA game. They have finally made thier mark in the sandbox genre imo.

I wouldn't expect a co-op GTA experience to be anything like SR...

Saints Row is a brilliant series, not selling as many copies as GTA (few games do) doesn't make it any less so.

Don't be fanboys, kiddies.

The game is to gta what bruno is to gran turino....

well i thought saints row 3 was shit, that's what i stopped playing it.

Agree and Disagree. It was a big disappointment in terms of customization ( I wanted my crib customization from SR2 ), and the side missions were pretty repetitive and boring ( what happened to the Septic Avenger Missions in SR2; remembers spraying shit all over the buildings, people and cars and watching the smelly mayhem created ). Really I think THQ got very lazy and decided they were going to release a half finished game, and ended up selling shit that was supposed to be in the original game as DLC.

SR3's Main Missions were the highlight and probably the best of the series. But after maybe a week and a half of completing the main in-game stuff I traded it in. I hope THQ makes a bit more of an effort next time and crams SR4 full of cutomization and features.

Co-Op might be an interesting addition. I think they should make a 4 Player ( or more, imagine 20 - 30 People AHHHHH!!! ) Horde Mode, with endless waves of enemy gangs or zombies. :D

They should have a rank-up unlock system, so the more gangsters/zombies you kill in-game the better weapons you unlock, plus maybe armour, armoured cars, machine-gun turrets/ bots you can spawn, call in air support, or extra gang members to fight for you etc, etc.

This isn't Black ops hahaha!

Yeah I know GTA is not COD. But I think Rockstar could make a great Co-Op Horde Mode with waves of enemy gangs/police/army ( it doesn't have to be zombies ). And it would be better than Black Ops Zombies because you have the entire city to choose where to make your stand. Plus there could be 10, 20 hell even more players working together at the same time ( could you imagine the mayhem and destruction it would be great :P ).

That is a shit comparison.

Saints Row is to GTA as Tarantino is to Scorsese.

Ha, I think Tarantino is a little better than Saints Row. :mods: So I would say this is a shit analogy as well ( no offence :D ).

While the Saints Row Series is a good bunch of games. Tarantino is one of the Masters of cinema, and I would say ( plus alot of Critics and the General Public ) he is equal to Scorsese.

Just take a look at the Movies, Reservior Dogs is equal to Mean Streets. Pulp Fiction is almost equal to Taxi Driver ( in my opinion, even though Taxi Driver is my favourite Movie ). True Romance & Jackie Brown are equal to Goodfellas & Casino. Kill Bill is probably equal to The Departed. But than again after Inglorious Basterds & Death Proof Tarantino is running out of movies, where as Scorsese still has New York New York, Raging Bull, Cape Fear, Gangs of New York etc.

Even though their movies take somewhat different approaches, both retain exemplary quality. Unlike Saints Row and GTA, where GTA is obviously the more quality product.

Look at Saints Row 1 compared to GTA 3, Saints Row 2 compared to GTA Vice City/ San Andreas, Saints Row 3 compared to GTA lV. It's not even comparable really is it?

No, I want Co-Op in GTA5 but I dont want people to be able to play in the story mode, I want it so you can go to a person icon and the other controller will press enter, then you and your friend run around doing stuff, i dont want it part of the story.

I agree! Missions like the kill streaks in that kind of co-op mode might be fun. Or some sort if gang fight. How about spit screen. The chaos would be epic. Two Hunter helicopters terrorizing the streets below. Lol.

If you base it on critical reception and not style, content, and atmosphere, then sure, you're right.

Admittedly, SR lost a lot of its style in 3, but my analogy is valid.

Pretty much what I was about to post. Tarantino films are highly stylised and purposefully OTT (ala Saints Row) in tone whereas Scorsese films are more subtle and gritty (GTA). Seems a fair analogy to me. :)

How about a coop mode where you are placed in a busy area (shopping mall, sports stadium, dance club, airport) And you just have to kill the shit out of defenseless civilians. That's what I call fun.

Except the only really gritty GTA was GTA lV. Was 1, 2, 3, Vice City, San Andreas, Both VC & LC Stories and Chinatown Wars?

And Saints Row is Over-The -Top like Tarantinos Movies, but it is also completely ridiculous with little to no underlying subtext to drive it's story and themes. This is very different to Tarantino's movies which have a rich subtext rife with double entendres and hidden meanings, polished with ulta suave & cool pop-culture music, clothing design, set design, original characters and themes ( some are borrowed ). Tarantino is also a great writer of screenplay's with plenty of great memorable lines that are very off-the-cuff and original ( he incourages alot of improvisation from the actors ), which is very different to Saint Row's Unoriginal Toilet Humour, and basic dialogue ( it's only a game but ).

It's also a little bit unfair to say that a director only has one particular style. One of the most important goals for many directors is to always try something new with each and every movie they make. Scorsese has had more time ( since the 60's/ 70's ) to make a more consumate dirctorial library, he is 69 by the way, and is starting into the twilight of his film making career. Whereas Tarantino is only 49 and has plenty of time to try different approaches to his craft. He has already made movies like Jackie Brown for instance that are more reminiscent of an older and more experienced director, and that was only his third film. I expect great movies from him in the future. Even with his lackluster ( compared to his older films ) latest entries.

co-op could work in GTA5 if done right of course...

yes, i want a dozen online co-op missions like the gang hideouts in RDR, and dynamic missions like "deal breaker" in GTA4... co-op should be present online and hopefully this time with a lot more than a few choices...

offline co-op?? yes, it can work... only, the main protag is controlled by player 1... player 2 should be a buddy or a thug, someone that just stands around in the background during cutscenes... perhaps setting a radius zone around player 1 for player 2 to stay in is a good way to keep the overloading down, but it needs to be split screen...

online story co-op missions?? same as i mentioned with offline co-op... the host of the map is the protag and the thugs are just background characters that help out the protag... it should also add extra enemies to shoot at, or chase, or be chased by... but in order to make it engaging, there should only be ONE main character...

there very well could perhaps be missions that tie the two characters together, but i don't think they work together on every mission... i am getting a feeling that they're separate stories, like the episodes from liberty city were... which also adds to the "who should i play as first?" mantra... we'll see about that last one, but you never know...

Except the analogy is there to illustrate how the games contrast with each other (in a very general sense), the games needn't be identical in tone to the films for the analogy to stand up. Anyway this is getting way off-topic so I'll just leave it there and agree to disagree.

I would say the " very general sense " of contrast between Saints Row and Tarantino is so general that it is incomparable and totally implausible.

Also this whole discussion started off with Massacre making an assertion that a previous poster's analogy was shit ( of little value ) compared to his, of which he then gave. Now you're all defending him saying an analogy can be very broad in it's sense and be different in tone which seems to be opposed with Massacre's statement that the other member's post was invalid, and you liked his comment Edgecrusher so what is it, do you agree with Massacre or with the last post you made ( don't be afraid to kiss a little more ass ). This is analogy's definition ie; a comparison of two different things similarities ( small or vast ). Yet I didn't see you defending the other lower ranking member. Funny That

I think it's safe to say that ppl with 0 real friends (not internet friends) that play games are going to say no but those of us with actual gaming friends would love the co-op feature. I'm not so high on a co op story mission anyway. I I just don't see why the co-op missions exclusive to online can't be local multiplayer aswell, deathmatches too, go all 007 Nightfire style. At least make the mini games (if they're good) local multiplayer.

And to the guy who assumed that everyone never plays with real friends, I only ever play multiplayer with my real friends. I hate playing online. I've got two Xbox's at home, so we can just hook them up to each other, bring a second TV into the living room and play to our heart's content.

Were you referring to me? Because I never said no one hear plays with real friends. I no what you're talking about, but me and my friends don't have the means to transport all our shit. Talking on mics isn't as fun as being able to puch the guy who just wasted you.

The difference is that Saints Row and Tarantino movies are similar, and Saints Row and Bruno are not. Q was just saying SR is shit, because he's a dick.

O.K I won't disagree about The Knight being a dick.

But Tarantino being one of Cinemas greatest directors, being compared to Saints Row ( which I like ), which is no where near one of the best game series seems crazy to me. And in my opinion the analogy was not apt.

Some of the best Gaming Franchises:

~ Mario

~ GTA

~ Final Fantasy

~ Legend of Zelda

~ God Of War

~ Assasin's Creed

~ Crash Bandicoot

~ Sonic

~ Elder Scrolls

~ Fallout

~ Kingdom Hearts

~ Metal Gear Solid

~ Metroid

~ Half Life

etc.etc,etc,etc................................................................

Even these great gaming franchises are incomparable to the greatest movies. I hope that future games will be able to mimic the brilliant/deep themes and story of great movies.
