  1. That's the first area I looked around. It appears that there is water below on the right of the scene because it looks bright (sun reflecting in the water I'm assuming). Again, I found similar houses overlooking sharp cliffs in the Palos Verdes Peninsula area which is pointing me there instead. There's like 1 lake outside of Beverly/Bel Air and the cliffhouses are not as similar. I see your point now... didn't even see the reflective something until you mentioned it. That gives your idea of Palos Verdes more substance. The big water bodies in the hills surely don't match up to this setup. Might still be a creek or something like that, but we'll see. I wouldn't mind if you're right tho, that would add some more authenticity (is that even a word?) to the city. Still cracks me up that Palos Verdes in LS of San Andreas is a park hill with the observatory at least they got that right this time
  2. i got eflc but never really played tlad because the crispy optic sort of sucks imho. gonna look out for that mission now... but pretty interesting as they seem to be talking about present time and 5 seems to be the same time as 4, while the gang war theme of san andreas was about 20 prior to gta4...
  3. the cliffhouses could aswell be in the hollywood (and adjecent) hills, theres quite some of these type located there aswell. Hard to tell as there's a lack of reference in this shot
  4. I'm with TreeFitty here. Why putting a full scale map-ish something on the wall of a jewelry store? also the color scheme matches the one of the clearly visible diamond poster on the right, so it suggests to advertise the same trademark
  5. perfect for some sort of "bash those commie bastards" mission. OWS goes contra, the game goes pro. Still far fetched from a focal point for storywriting, but definitily worth a mission.
  6. It will be a while before LS will be an exact replica of LA, if ever. Although I like the idea, gameplay will suffer to such a level that it would be ridiculous. Just think you get a job in Compton saying you gotta pick up a delicate package at the beach of Sta Monica and drop it on a speedboat hidden in the harbor. Plus a little realistic traffic congestion and there goes your sunday...
  7. yeah but on the other hand, they include all kind of (more or less usefull stats; your choice) incl distances travelled on foot, car, bike, plane, helicopter, public transport, wheelchairs, flying rainbowshitting antelopes, blabla fair enough a method to scale the games' world with imho. for me, I always refer to the system in mafia 2. once in a vehicle, a small speedometer + circular fuel gauge pops out the radar. Of course this strongly suggests some sort of speed limits and enforcement of it aswell, because why care about having a speedometer if it doesn't matter what it's showing? I don't mind if they won't include it, but surely welcome something like this, as long as it's not overloaded ( and - staying in line with the combination I just mentioned - would be balanced. Blasting thru LA at top speed (I know it doesnt work) will surely drain your gas tank, if the same happens in LS I feel like we would spent more time lifting fuel than anything else) Also I feel like there will be much disappointment. Just think of awesome cars like the Infernus or any other sports exotic in the game and then do a quick doublecheck for topspeed in the handling file...
  8. more realistic looking suspension while jumping wont hurt
  9. pretty much everything to be honest. I roamed around every little corner in Los Santos and that's what I'll do in 5 aswell. I mean, of course I'd take a closer look at prominent places they've already recreated in San Andreas and take a look at 5's interpretation of it. Of course what I'm most interested in is the backdrop now that we know we'll get the countryside back. And definitely hit the Vinewood hills and enjoy the view over the city. One of the most scenic areas in LA, already pretty nice in San Andreas and I guess even more awesome than that in 5's rendition of Los Santos
  10. more funny tv shows more sexual allusions than in 4, but less than in San Andreas a little more recreation of suburban sprawl (after all, thats what LA is made of) plenty of sidekicks and random missions to do character customization like in San Andreas not necessarily car customization but at least the ability to manually select the new paintjob when at a pay n spray lots of buyable assetts like shops and stuff garages to put the cars in next to working car washes a working fuel system (e.g. like in mafia 2) speedlimits and speedometers (and maybe cops pulling you over for ignoring them) hopefully (but I doubt it) not just mirrored tires/wheels but actually considering the side they're on. I know its just a little detail but I find it annoying how tires are just mirrored on the other side of a vehicle, especially the tire pattern looks annoying that way airplanes. ok we saw some of them but thats still what i want interesting stuff to do outside town (offroad races come to mind) and last but not least a vivid map full of small details that I can roam for months and still discover new corners, delivering some of the LA-ish feeling (as the voice in the trailer gets it head on: "that thing, the magic") and an overall atmosphere of a "living" world of which the character is a part of.
  11. maybe that's what stirrs the discussion here nope. As you can see they say "Liberty City" where the actual registration would be and below, they say "Liberty City State", pretty much alike this New York state plate-style Right, but since the plates are pretty close to real life in 4 already, consider them to be equally close to real life in 5. Just look at the different styles you see in the trailer, linking to diverent years of registration
  12. in scene 20, the hispanic looking people standing around in front of the Los Santos grafitti, remind me of how the "recruting spots" for illegal day-laborers are described in the novel Tortilla Curtain, which is also situated in LA.Basically, the book talks about gathering places for illegal immigrants looking for daily jobs in whatever work they can get and residents go there, talk to what's the boss in this place about what workers are needed, gather them and brings them back in the evening. anyway, the whole scene totally reminds me of exactly how the book describes this, especially since theres people in working clothes (i spotted clothing similar to those worn at construction sites; hard shoes, gloves, baggy pants etc) So maybe this is supposed to recreate such a place? Also, the jeep type car with a couple of men on the truck bed seems to be driving away from the curb and back into the rolling traffic. maybe picked up/dropped some workers? At least it looks more like this than a bus stop imho (EDIT: plus I don't see any bus stop signs there or anything else that suggests a bus stop here; after all, it would be nice to know where to wait for the bus )
  13. I just took the 6 scenes that show downtown from afar, estimated the POV and distances and put it over a screenshot of LA in google maps, all starting with the marina. I didn't want to take a look at the shape and correct size of the map, but more approximate locations and therefore resulting dimensions. here's the result: note that, as I could have started with any other location estimated in the trailer breakdown as a starting point for this, the size of the circles compared to the underlying map would be different. i took the marina as it is the first scene and made my way though it, The map was a reference to work with rather than anything to base a map shape of. TreeFitty is better and further at this anyway ^^ What I realized is that, while the perspective of the golf course (as well as it's design) seem to be based on LA Country Club, the apparent distance to downtown, compared to the distance in the 3rd scene with what seems to be the marina towers, is considerably higher than it would be in a downscaled replica of LA (unless R* used different fields of depth). Compared to draw distances in GTA4, which I guess will be the same in 5 as we're looking at a game running on the same engine, this leads me to the conclusion - next to that the map is an approximate interpretation rather than a recreation - that we're basically looking at a rather "small" city of Los Santos, maybe about the size of the land-areas of LC. Plus the surounding landscape and the absence of other big cities, I guess the map will be slightly bigger than LC, which means about the size of the entire map of San Andreas, but with only one big city of course.
  14. I was being sarcastic as I often am... I wouldn't want to see CJ or the GSF return. A parody of the Crips & Blood would most definitely return, and if not the GSF and Ballas, what else? Why would they create 2 new gangs when they already have 2 made? They could very well create the GSF again but with no ties to the III era. because the Bloods vs Crips thing had it's best times in the early ninties where SA takes place, with the absolute "high" in gang activity around the time when the LA Riots happened. After that, there was a strong decay in activity linking to several agreements between the Bloods and Crips due to the riots. There's still violent clashes today, but by far not as frequent and with less deaths than back in the time where San Andreas is set. and 5, judging from the cars driving around, takes places in the same timeframe as 4, which is about now, so I really dont think there will be as much gang violence as we saw in SA.
  15. what other mountain than Mt Diablo should Mt Chiliad represent? Mt. Diablo: Big mountain near San Francisco "famous" for it's downhill bike races. Mt. Chiliad: Big mountain near San Fiero "famous" for it's downhill bike races.
  16. That's my guess aswell. There's so many mountains around LA, the mountain seen could be any of these. Plus the fact that we only saw what's adjecent to LS and Mt Chiliad clearly belongs to SF. I think, beside some storyline teasing, the next trailer (or at least upcoming news) will give us some more information about what's outside LS and then we see whether they will include other big cities or not.
  17. afaik we knew pretty much right from he beginning that SA will have more than one city to explore, but names came later on. Anyway, I voted for LS only as that's the place I spent (and still do) most of the time playing SA, never really cared about the other towns, especially SF. To me, LS delivered the best feeling plus most of the story is based in/around LS. And from the looks of the trailer, the feeling I got roaming LS will be more than recreated in 5... I mean, I would play the game anyway, no matter what else - beside LS - will be in there, but I know already that I won't spend much time there. But technical aspects underline the LS only theory. Just look at the amazing detail they show off in the trailer. All this needs it's disc/hdd place. After all, we're talking about a game that'll be played on current generation consoles and especially the 360 is very much limited by memory capacity and I really doubt that R* will go down the big download/installment lane. EDIT: grammar etc
  18. since it's nothing but screenshots from San Andreas, I doubt it was ment to be any hint towards the location of 5. What confused me a little was the difference between the flora around the Vinewood logo here and in the game, looks like they enhanced it a little with larger bushes and stuff. The similarities in the pictures is purely coincidental I guess. I did some visual comparison and found that the Shamal doesn't even belong to the skyline view like it does at the end of the trailer. The Vinewood sign and the Shamal flying are 2 small pictures at the sides while the "main" picture is the skyline with the Hydra in front. Position yourself a litte north of the Vinewood sign and look back towards donwtown LS and you see basically the same picture as most of the beackground on this ride consists of. I like to take it as one of the many many many easter eggs linking BACK to San Andreas in GTA4 (as in homage; R* knows this was the most popular game in the series and therefore did it... at least thats my guess as to why there's so many allusions to San Andreas. EDIT: just go to the mini golf course right next to the rollercoaster, all sculptures there are gathered from all over San Andreas)
  19. you should read it, probably one of the funniest gta5 trolling atm
  20. I'm totally with duffman here. as long as the cars actually sound like *cars* and not like electric shavers on steroids, I'd be more than happy with a 1:1 port of the gta4 cars. well other than that, I won't mind more special/unique cars or at least cars with unique addons (i can still remember the first minute after i found the sultan rs in 4 and was like oh cool now i am the only one to drive this car cuz it was all hidden in the bushes, turned off the lot and fenderbendered right into the next sultan rs). I want to see more classic american cars aswell. buickboy's list was quite what I had in mind relating these classics. since we get the rural areas and forrests and whatnot else back, I want the monster and the bf injection to rock the offroad. and i sort of like the super gt back, but that's because it was my favorite car in san andreas. as for things that have to do with cars, I recon the garages will be definitely back as LA is much more suburban than urban in terms of development so there'll be much more single family homes than appartment blocks so this gives both room and sense to the return of garages. in terms of car functionality, next to the apparent functional convertible roofs I would like to be able to pop the hood and trunk (maybe a functional trunk awell) and i like to use turning signals. car customization doesnt need to be, altho i liked it much in san andreas, but at least i want be able to pick the paintjob myself again, like it was possible the trans fender shops
