  1. Pretty sure Opeth is everything metal should ever be. Fucking perfect band. Brutally heavy, technical, powerful, tasteful, beautiful, and emotional. All perfectly balanced. Dominating my stereo the past 3 months. New record "Pale Communion" coming June 17. Too stoked for it. Everything I've read makes it sound like an amazing record.
  2. Never heard of Direwolf or Anubis Gate. I'll check em out. Dude, if you haven't found 8BitCore on YouTube yet, DO IT! The Spawn of Possession and Necrophagist in 8 Bit are fucking epic!
  3. I'm about 7 chapters into V For Vendetta graphic novel. I've never seen the movie or read it and am thoroughly enjoying it. It's pretty twisted.
  4. More SciFi death metal bands: Hypocrisy, Deeds of Flesh, Neuraxis, the Faceless Blotted Science if you're ok with it being instrumental. Psycroptic - "Symbols of Failure" Origin.. Decrepit Birth...
  5. Dude, call me a noob but I've only listened to Spheres. What would you suggest? Beyond Creation fucking RULES!!! I've been hooked on their record for some time now. Love that dudes bass tone. He's a killer. Is only really consider that Nocturnus record the only thing I've ever thought of as SciFi metal. I can definitely see the Obscura thing now that you mention it. I'll ponder that for a bit. Heard the new Defeated Sanity, Handsome? Most brutal thing that's come out in as long as I can remember. Just sheer heavy brutality. Punishing bass, too.
  6. Jeroen Thesseling didn't play on Omnivium. T'was Linus Klausnitzer I actually prefer the bass on Omnivium as well. Like you said, it fits in with Obscura's style better. Having said that, I'm a big Jeroen Thesseling fan. He has a very similar style to Steve Digiorgio. I first heard him (as most people would have) on "Spheres" by Pestilence, which is a flawed but underrated album. Nope, it was Thesseling that recorded the bass on Omnivium. Linus toured with them in support of the record, though. So stoked I got to catch the L.A. stop on that tour. It was a phenomenal show, despite being at the Key Club which has awful acoustics. The dudes were really fucking nice when I met them at that show. Surprisingly so. I was afraid I was going to break Christian's hand when I shook it. That guy is tiny and mad skinny haha. You're right about "Spheres". So much good but just enough to complain about. lol
  7. This May will host my 12th-15th Primus concerts. They are the greatest live experience you can get today, regardless of your opinion of their studio material.
  8. You're my new favorite forum member.
  9. You're welcome. There was a solid two years where I listened to Cosmogenesis and Omnivium at least once a day each. I still listen to them very frequently (Septuagint>Vortex Omnivium is often my wake-up work commute soundtrack) but nothing beats when you first get into something this glorious. Curious why you only mentioned the bass on Cosmogenesis. You listened to the follow up?? Septuagint and Celestial Spheres bass solos take a shit all over Orbital Elements, and the bass on every song is so clean and more tasteful, as I feel A lot of Cosmogenesis was full of very obnoxious basslines. That's not to say I don't fucking love every second of that record, but he complemented the compositions way better on Omnivium. thanks so much for posting that video! I knew he was in production of the new record but didn't know there were any videos. I fucking love Timewarp and am stoked to hear how he improves upon it. He hadn't even realized he was dealing with focal dystonia during the production of Timewarp even though it was affecting him, so it will be interesting to hear how he's adapted his style. Hannes Grossmann recently released his solo record as well, and I'm fucking pissed I haven't been able to snag a copy yet.
  10. Damn, I thought this topic would be about L.A. hardcore. I'm out of here.
  11. Isn't it? Man. I really regret not paying attention in high school chemistry. As an adult I've become fascinated in physics, quantum physics and chemistry but am learning it all on my own now.
  12. For entertainment, nigga. Saw the final episode last night. Great episode and wrapped it all up, but come on.
  13. I'm well aware of what it takes. I've been in the field for years and have had a lot of conversations with our vets. Thanks.
  14. Ha. Thanks. That's the way I see it. Everything has a place in this world so I don't let myself be uninterested in whatever I'm learning. It's all fascinating. You're never too old to get more education, so I will surely keep my eyes set on other things even after my degree.
  15. Because I've been in the field over three years and love it more than most things, and have always wanted to do it in the back of my mind. I have a learned a lot from my boss/mentor as far as recognizing illnesses and diagnostics, reading bloodwork, identifying X-rays, anatomy, surgery, etc. It comes pretty easy to me so far.
  16. I have no idea what my future has in store, but the goal in the back of my mind is primarily to either find a good school in Europe, or to end up committing to a good veterinary school in America when I return (definitely not in Nevada) I'm not the no-work, no-school type. I have too great an urge to move forward and learn new things. This is just me trying something new. Who knows, maybe it will change me completely.
  17. Technicians do all the dirty work. Lifting 100 pound dogs, shaving shit covered asses, taking X-rays on evil cats, and a whole lot more. I'm more interested in the diagnosing and treatment of the animals.
  18. I'm going to College of Southern Nevada for a Veterinary Technician degree, but I'm also quitting to go be a nomad in Europe. I just realized the job is not for me. However, when I return from my travels I'm going to go to veterinary school for my doctorate.
  19. Hey, I still pat myself on the back for a good idea, even if it's been done. Them shits look tasty.
  20. I've invented a godly food innovation. Fawafals. Falafel cooked in a waffle maker, with tzaziki/tahini syrup sauce. Fuck yeah.
  21. This. He doesn't really incorporate alien theories in his works, but he did get a little out there for a bit with a lot of Mars speculation. His book "Fingerprints of the Gods" is fucking amazing and very eye-opening. He also has a lot of studies on once-lost underwater structures/civilizations and used to scuba dive to near-impossible places and take amazing photos of them. I forgot what his book about that is called. If anyone wants to get a good intro to Graham Hancock, download some old Art Bell shows where he interviewed him, and he also joined Joe Rogan for three of his podcasts. All these are very enjoyable listens and replayable, but the recent Joe Rogan podcasts incorporate a lot more talk of psychedelics and DMT since he got way into that the past several years. All very interesting but all depends on what you like. Very smart guy.
