  1. yeah but still this would be nothing but a micro-dlc and no comparison to the likes of TLAD/BOGT which is what most think of as a DLC in terms of content.

you can't just fill Catalina with enough shit to make it a fullblown DLC. Catalina, even with the missions you thought of, would be more like the DLC-cars in MCLA.

if R* gives us a whole new set of story, maybe with a new character or 2 and include Catalina with it, yeah that would be something worth the hassle imho

  2. Total playable area is roughly 25mi^2 or something like that, if RDR is roughly 5mi^2. That's huge for a game. I wonder how the city:countryside:underwater ratio will go. If everything is 1:1:1, then they would each be around 8mi^2 each, which is not bad at all. However, the countryside will almost definitely exceed the size of the city, and there isn't really any way to estimate the size of the underwater area.

    according to xbox magzine:

A few bits of trivia to polish off. GTA 5's land mass is three and a half times the size of that of Red Dead Redemption, and the actual playable area (which includes underwater areas) is five times as large. Franklin alone has more textures than the entire pedestrian population of GTA: San Andreas. GTA 5 offers the largest selection of vehicles you'll find in a Grand Theft Auto title, and the largest arsenal too.

still doesn't say anything on the city, but one can expect the countryside outside LS to be considerably bigger than the city, so you can get a vague idea of the actual ratios...

I'd say the city itself is somewhere in the area of the RDR-map, give or take a few sqft

  3. That new screenshot with the heli above Pacific Palisades and that "little" piece of stretch of the pacific coast highway from bottom right corner to the tunnel entrance show actually how big the city is, so those who talk shh on the city size maintain silent :D

Edit: This one stretch is like 3/4 of the "central park" in LC

yeah that pic is amazing as it shows how crazy devs at R* are.

I mean, take a very good look at it and see how accurate it is to it's real life counterpart - neglecting scale of course - and then think of the many other areas we've discovered already that are so freestyle that they don't match up anything it takes it's real life inspiration from (eg alamo sea)

  4. The SUV behind the Oracle is similar to an Audi Q7 (the truck behind that is a Mule):

    trailer-3t-i-need-this-car.jpg

When the camera gets lower in this scene:

    trailer-3t-flying-through-downtown.jpg

You can see the rear of the Q7 in the distance plus what is probably the new Yankee box truck on the left.

tbh, this suv has more in common with late-model Range Rovers than with a Q7, looks like a meshup of the newest Range Rover and the Range Rover Evoque to me

  5. I doubt the layout is by accident

there's quite some similarities to previous titles in terms of arrangement of the pictures, like the helicopter up left.

also, the layout it is quite equal to that of the IV era covers, as seen in this comparison at the gtaforums:

    leHkGb5.jpg

and yes, bones is right about the color balance, this intention is more than obvious seeing how they changed backgrounds on certain already existing artworks to achieve it.

  6. Allegedly, they hung a black canvas over the mural.

probably in response to the bazillions of threads popping up all over the related forums

I don't understand why you felt the need to quote me. The second part of my post made that same point much more intelligently.

hm... i was so eager to post it that I missed the 2nd part of your post...

  7. Well it's gotta be people they can trust. Last thing they want is one of the painters taking a pic of thier cover and putting it all over the internet.

A painter can be put under an NDA, same as anyone else. Rockstar tells the company the cover needs to be hidden, the company tells the painters to keep the artwork to themselves.

they paint a fuckin huge mural in one of the most populated cities on earth without anything to block the view, thus making it everything but a secret.

you really think this is what happens when R* is keeping other people's mouths shut?

  8. I'm not too sure this is the boxart, it could just be an advertiser, but the actual game case could be something else.

that was my first thought aswell, cuz the gta4 murals on hotel figueroa weren't the boxart either.

but then, there's a lot that speaks for the boxart idea; it surely follows the gta-boxart logic (most of the gta boxarts had a helicopter up left) and is trimmed to look like a game box with the esrb sticker and all that.

I'm with the boxart leak here.

  9. Does the San Andreas fault-line continue into the sea, off the coast of Northern California? Or is that trench something entirely different? That would make a decent sized trench if they wanted to include one...

    Yes and no.

Actually, this isn't a trench, but a approximately 1.2 miles high ridge, called Mendocino Fracture Zone that runs through almost the entire pacific and coincides with where the San Andreas Fault goes eventually goes submarine (when looking south->north)

It's a result of the plate activity between the Pacific Plate and it's surrounding plates (North American, Juan de Fuca and to some extent the Eurasian and Philipine Plate aswell).

The main fault line, however, continues northbound along the Juan de Fuca Ridge and Explorer Ridge and continues along the coast through the Golf of Alaska and onward along the Aleutian Islands to Russia.

The San Andreas Fault itself, this is merely a matter of terminology, is only the "landside" part from the Golf of California to Cape Mendocino.

(you marked this part wrong on your map btw, but that's not the point here)

    figure1_03.jpg

but to get this underwater cliffdiving feeling, all we need is some of the underwater canyons that are scattered all along the entire westcoast.

Redondo Canyon, just to name one, is as much as 1000ft deep and just off Redondo Beach.

or you really do underwater cliffdiving, in most cases the seabed as a shallow slope until a few miles off the coast and then falls off very rapidly (not as nice to see around LA, but if you look at San Francisco, until 30miles out of Golden Gate, the seabed falls just about 1400ft and then over a lenth of about 50miles, the seabed falls more than 10.000ft...

  10. so...

According to a todays article update in german IT magazine "computer bild", japanese newspaper "asahi shimbun" claims to know that the PS4 will be officially introduced to the audience on feb. 20th and hit the stores in the US and Japan by christmas this year for around $400 (europe not even mentioned)

this particular rumor is not that new so either all use the same source or it starts to narrow down slowly until we get an official input

anyways, even IF this is true, what good is it to release a game for this console a quarter year earlier than the console itself? won't make sense.

further, giving the long development time R* puts into this game (some sources go as far back as working on the title started parallel to the release of IV), how could you develop for a hardware which, by this time, was fiction even for the producing company? even if R* outlined the game for 2 years before actually starting to code and create the graphics, it's still hard to believe they knew the system specs on time to tailor the game accordingly...

nope, imho the best we can expect for a ps4 xbox720 is a port, but not a "real" development for these platforms

  11. I think hail is less likely than snow.

Hail is always associated with thunderstorm activity, so everywhere there is an active thunderstorm cell or the convective activity to cause thunderstorms, there's a chance for hail.

Snow, on the other hand... ah you know what's needed to get snow.

Since there's definitely thunderstorms in LA but barely the needed low temperatures to get snow, I'd say hail is much more likely than snow in LA

  12. I'm more with the Peyote on that one.

The front of the car concerned seems like a straight vertical line from the screenscap which is at about 90° angle.

the Windsor has a nice smooth and classy 70s british luxury sports car front line, looking very much like an 72/73 jaguar e type, a line that's still smooth curvy from that angle.

anyways, back to the aircraft discussion.

could it be - by chance - that we we're talking not about the obvious C130 picture all the time, but about this one here, guessing which ac this cockpit belongs to?:

    official-screenshot-pull-that-airplane-over.jpg

imho, there's too much of a dent from the cockpit windows to the nose to be a C5, but the windows sort of match, except that the C5 has a center window while this ac does not.

for a Mriya (AN225), the windows might match but I honestly doubt GTA goes communism beyond russian mob and AKs

for a 747, the windows match in terms of alignment, but the 2 front windows of the 747 are stretched down quite a lot in the lower center corner

my first guess was it's some sort of a 747 lookalike, a bit of an enhanced model of the flyUS 747s from IV.

really hard to tell from just that picture and knowing that R* likes to go all freestyle and mesh up a lot of designs in 1 vehicle

(just look how many different AC are combined in the military jet in this picture, based off an F16 they threw in like 4 or 5 other jets)

  13. and the cover release is also delayed, according to R* commenting on the newswire comments:

Hey all, we understand many of you guys are disappointed with this news – unfortunately sometimes such delays are necessary in all forms of entertainment, and especially in the case of a game experience as massive and complex as GTAV. However this does not give you free reign to be abusive in comments. The general rules of common courtesy, decency and behavior as listed above the Comment Box still apply here, therefore anyone continuing to post abusive comments will have their privileges suspended. Also for those of you asking about the official box art, that will be coming out a bit later as well. Thank you all for understanding.

    EDIT:

Unfortunately I was right... But Im not surprised. christmas sales rule the market and thats it.

how's a september release possibly affecting christmas sales, with a title like GTA that sets sales-records upon release?

I really doubt this decission is due to christmas sales because if so, they would've taken a winter date instead of mid-summer

  14. There is also scripts to run the PS3 controller on PC.

really? the whole reason i never bought a gaming pc is because i diddnt wanna use a keyboard. i didn't even know you could use a console controller. that's awesome.

thats what I do. Works very well most of the time.

anyways, just found something I really want to be changed in terms of "graphics" above everything else: I want the camera not to be centered on the player while driving like it is in IV, but on the vehicle like it was before.

after giving vice city another spin from the getgo recently this really annoyed me just as much as it did annoy me back when IV was released

  15. A bit off topic, and not sure if it's been bought up already, but how does everybody think they'll create a map edge barrier? In RDR it was mountains, in GTA it was an invisible barrier in the water. I put this here as it is kinda related to graphics.

GTA SA had infinite water (and air space) stretch out in every direction. GTA V will probably have the same.

I hope the water is only to the west and other directions have infinite dirt space.

While I like the idea of both infinite water and infinite desert, I fear that where both collide, we get some rather boring and unrealistic straight coastline unless it is procedurally generated landscape with actual features like elevation, which is possible, but I doubt it.

so I guess there's nothing new under the sun when it comes to the general map properities, an island in an infinite ocean.

I expect the graphics to be better than in IV, maybe more along the lines of RDR, maybe even a bit better than that, but not too much of a change as we're still talking RAGE here...
