It sucks that there weren't any surprise areas on the map. Rockstar said they were holding a lot back and I was hoping there would be something significant that we didn't know about yet. I thought we'd at least see something like Santa Catalina Island.

From Aaron Garbut - the GTA V art director:
The quote is on the last page of the article.

The city is the size of Liberty City without the water.

Does anyone possibly know what this part of the map could be?

(couldn't just post an image )

So did CVG try to claim another fan-made map? Or did they actual give credit to the person?
I don't know. I haven't read or watched any of the stuff from today because I feel like I know too much already. The only thing I want to see at this point is the map.

Those 2 maps above were made by jbte from gtaforums a few months ago.

Better quality than the other one...

There wasn't any mention of anything south of Los Santos in the previews.
-
The other problem is that on the helecopter pic, the mountain ends before the lake does,
It doesn't actually end there.
-
I don't think the yellow is the same mountain,
Well, it is. It's the same one here -
-
That screenshot makes the map look tiny..
It's looking like Los Santos with a backyard to me.
This is what's behind the big mountain -
I hope they're hiding something.

This is what I get:

The dam is here:

Do you have a numerical value? I'm guessing around 6 square miles or something similar to that.
Here's a mile marker if you want to figure it out -
-
What's your estimated size of the city? It's probably written somewhere in these 96 pages.
I get this...

Also, Those caculations aren't exactly solid. RDR's map size could be 10sqm and those statements could still be true.
Show me that math.
One way or another I look foward to finding out whether or not you're correct. You're goddamn right I'm correct.
At 1 inch = 1/4 mile scale:
-
The blueprint map is 21.5" x 26.75". The most likely scale seems to be 1 inch = 1/4 mile. That would make the area within the border around 30 square miles. That matches well with the SA + IV + RDR size description.
More importantly, it matches the size of my estimate.
Do you still believe GTAIV (6sqm) is bigger than RDR?
Har Har Har Har Har
GTA IV only had around 3.5 square miles of land. Counting the water around the islands makes it around 6.5 square miles. RDR has about 5.5 square miles of reachable area.
5 times RDR has to be the same as SA + IV + RDR.
Find the value for RDR that makes the above correct.
Ta-dah!

Does anyone else find it strange that they released such a detailed map of the city this soon? I was expecting at most an outline of the city when they launch the official website.

The Alamo sea is based on the Salton sea, which is a man made anomaly that never dried up. That's telling me the water seeps into it rather than out from it. I'm sure inward facing waterfalls could be possible in this case...
All I know is this one is flowing out of the Alamo Sea - http://www.rockstargames.com/V/screenshots/screenshot/41
-
Guys, why do you think the three rivers will reach out to the surrounding ocean?
We seen waterfalls heading back into the center of the map, and unless the ocean is higher than the center of the map (highly unrealistic, and would look strange), water would have to flow upwards somewhere, unless the ocean is gonna be tilted...
The only waterfall I'm aware of flows out of the Alamo Sea.
Riding on top of big trucks.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but you can ride on top of the big trucks without falling off. The driver will drive you around while you shoot everything. That was one of my favorite things to do in San Andreas.
