  1. small query... can i buy just one issue of game informer, or do i have to subscribe?

    http://www.gameinfor...november-8.aspx

"Game Informer Digital subscribers have access to all three digital editions, or you can purchase the individual issues on iPad or Android for $4.99 (or subscribe directly to those devices through the appropriate storefront for $19.99)."

And if you want to get your hands on a hard copy:

    "Print newsstand is November 16."

  2. Web servers are probably US based and were partially down, what with Hurricane Sandy. Decided to wait off on releasing the trailer until some were back on before putting the trailer up and having the website slow to a crawl?

I would speculate that Cyantist is on the right track here. Releasing a GTA trailer is not a simple matter of uploading it to a server and making it available to the world. As soon as it hits, the site will be under incredible load trying to handle the worldwide demand. If proper load balancing isn't in place, our insatiable appetites alone will bring the site to its knees. I'm guessing the real holdup isn't getting power to Rockstar HQ; there's likely a datacenter somewhere in NYC or along the eastern seaboard recovering from the storm, and that datacenter that is a key cog in the marketing machine.

  3. Hey pud, you make it sound like the first person camera is the same lens type for gta iv and the v trailer. They probably have a slider to control camera lenses in game. Which makes things difficault to judge. You can't assume the first person camera is for example, always a 15mm lens, that'd just be guessing. Perspective does play a part in judging a distance too. Focal length & feild of view can drastically alter the size of a distant object from image to image.

I know you coule calculate the height of an object based on real world object scales, but that's still not accurate. I'm not dismissing your efforts, as we can all see just buy watching the trailer and looking at pics, that it seems like a fairly small city.

    ^^ What he said.

Look, BP, I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm saying there are too many unknowns involved for you to insist that you're right.

A for effort, though. That's some in-depth analysis.

  4. It makes all the difference when you're trying to place where the camera is on the map.

TreeFitty is spot on. Angle of view is a huge factor and cannot be ignored. A trivial example is this image that appears in a Wikipedia article:

    Focal_length.jpg

The items are the same size, but depending on factors like focal length and zoom level, each image looks totally different.

Now, all of this analysis is fascinating, but let's not pretend we know anything definitive about the scale of the map.

  5. ^What he said. Not legit.

That said, I do expect a Q4 2012 release - Take-Two Interactive's 2012 fiscal year actually ends March 31, 2013. Investor guidance suggests something huge is coming before then. So a release sometime in early March might make sense.

    <shrug>

    not quite right.

according to their investor reports, T2's fiscal years are ahead, not behind real calender. I can't find the interim reports atm but I find the annual reports, and the report for fiscal 2012 was already relased in may.

so we are now in T2's fiscal 2013 which ends March 31 2013.

You're right, good catch. I was thinking of guidance for FY 2013. I'm still buying into a release early next year until the numbers suggest otherwise.

Just think, in six short weeks we can officially put this October 2012 thing to bed.
