GTA Online introduces a new spin on traditional character creation with the hereditary-based creation system. Select your character’s appearance by choosing your parent’s heritage, then use the gene dominance meter to dial-in which parent your appearance favors more. Additionally, you'll customize your character's daily activities - everything from family time to illegal work and sports to couch potato hours all have an impact on your character’s appearance and skill set (and you can always rank up your skill stats more via gameplay).

The more I read about this game, the more I think Rockstar have managed to create something that will be remembered for years to come. This could very well be the Grand Theft Auto III of this generation in terms of innovation.

  2. What scope have you got for expanding beyond the locations we're seeing already?

Well, one thing we've toyed with - and we've talked about this before, so it isn't a spoiler - is (the ambition) to grow this world until it's the world. We're just going to add on new things to it, new places all the time. We've set this up so there are no limitations. The only limitation is the size of the disc and how much memory we've got. We could, if we wanted, simulate the entire world, different countries, whatever. Whether we do that or not... But we've got a bunch of old stuff that we're toying with using.

I had to read this part over a couple times because I couldn't comprehend what I had just read. If they somehow manage to do that, then... I don't even know.

  3. I once heard the story of a group of Russian men who would get drunk on vodka and do a series of challenges together to see who among them was the most badass. They would hit each other with bats, jump of roofs, burn themselves with cigarettes, etc. all trying to one up the other. One day while they sat around drinking, one of the men arrived with a machete. He walked over to his friends, handed one of them the machete, and said "cut my fucking head off". He didn't have to ask twice.

    I believe every word too.

  4. One of the things I like about GOT is that there are no good or bad characters, everyone is morally ambiguous like in real life. This isn't a cookie cutter fantasy where everyone has a happy ending, I would say its more a reality based one where bad things happen to people who make stupid decisions based on emotion instead of logic. Someone like Ned Stark may have been an extremely honorable person but that is what lead to his downfall, in the real world you have to make some questionable decisions to survive. That's why I would consider Tyrion, Jon Snow, Daenerys, Arya, etc. to be the true "heroes" of this story because they are the imperfect characters who learn to adapt.

  5. I'm much more excited for this coming generation than I was with the last considering Sony is following a business model similar to the one they had during the PS2 era with a focus on games and making the system developer friendly. Microsoft seems to being going in the opposite direction and it will be interesting to see how the new Xbox does in comparison considering the massive backlash.

  6. Bethesda doesn't have the best track record when it comes to things that aren't Elder Scrolls or Fallout, and they're certainly not going to make anything better than those two.

The game is being made by Tango Gameworks, Mikami's personal development studio. Bethesda is just the publisher.

  7. That trailer was... something. I don't know whether I should be interested, repulsed, or both. Shinji Mikami making this gives me the feeling that either way, it will be something to look out for. Survival Horror could very well be getting a revival soon by the master himself.
