Pixelated gradients

Recommended Posts

Is photoshop trying to make a low-bit image? I think that's a "mode" setting. First thing I would check with such a bad case of banding.

If not that then dithering would be next to check. I know photoshop can simplfy the color palette to be HTML friendly but that would go back to the bit size as far as I know.

Yeah fitty is right.

This is called gradient banding. You look like you're in a very low bit mode. For the smoothest possibles gradient you need a high bit. depending on your monitor and the file extensions you save the image out, the quality of the gradient could differ. Try making a 32bit image and redraw your gradient, and aave it as either a TGA (targa), BMP or PNG for best quality.
