  1. My numbers might have been off, (I guess SA is actually bigger then RDR and the 28sq mile thing was just rumor) but it has to be bigger the 7sqmiles. today I found someone who calculated it to be around 30sq. he used in game mesurments of each game to come up with that. http://www.gtaforums...howtopic=531982

Yep, I meant to link to that myself but forgot :)

His map shows around about 12sq mile cropped map for RDR, but as I said, a large portion of that, more than 40% is not explorable due to the impassible walls.

As S.A. is proven to be the biggest we know it's going to be significantly bigger than that, which I guess is the main thing.

  2. Has anyone tried to do a Sq Mile estimate of this map? I think I have read that SA was about 14 SqM and GTA4 was just bit smaller? RDR was around 28SqM. So if I am right about those numbers (which very well may be wrong about) GTA5 would be at least 36 Sq Miles? Could that be right?

I think RDR fits inside the same 6000m x 6000m box as SA, and about half of that is explorable, so it's more like 7 SqM. Same probably applies to GTA4 if you don't count the water. I'm guessing the GTAV map will either be 6000m*12000m or 12000m*12000m.

  3. I'm personally not surprised by this, but i thought i'd show you guys anyway. This is the difference between the phrases "in-engine" and "in-game" as some people expect the game to look as pretty as the screenshots. The screenshots aren't like cgi cutscenes, they're just beauty stills which can be tweaked in photoshop and other image software.

    in-engine:

    in-game:

They've started out with better quality models too, which might eventually show up in the PC version.

Small silly example but it looks like the tops of the fence posts are curved in the top shot, but flat in the trailer.

  4. I really love the 3d-take on the map and appreciate the effort you put into figuring it out.

But I'm honest, I don't like the shape... well no, I like it as such, but it doesn't feel right to me.

Because, when I think how more or less accurate San Andreas was in terms of geographic features - even tho a lot of things were very scatchy, imrovised and off, many many things were about accurate - and then think of how the map creation evolved in IV and how much more accurate LC was to it's real life counterpart compared to SA - and IV was considerably accurate concerning the shape and geography of NYC - I think R* continues this trend and stays at least as accurate as they were in IV, if not enhance it another shade or two.

again, I like your map and appreciate the effort, but I think V's map will be much more geographically accurate as your idea of the map; of course not scale accurate but enough accuracy to identify the location on first sight just looking at the outlines of the map

No problem, I think their map will be roughly accurate in the city but must get wilder beyond there. Looking at this old fake, I think he was onto something:

I'll see if I can do a bit of tweaking to match my guessed coastline to the GTA IV teaser image, which looks roughly based on Los Angeles County. The 'Malibu' part was a just a guess by me as what could fill that corner but they could end up having Catalina island just like the fake map.

  5. Put San Andreas in for the first time in years, had forgotten it had sealife in! Got a surprise when I swam into a dolphin.

In San Andreas on PS2 you have to press the up buttun to let your gang follow you and the down button to let them stay where they are, and when you attack someone they will attack him/her too.

This could return in GTA V to control dogs.

A bit like whistling for your horse in RDR. That would be great.

  6. Everything I thought I understood about the map has been turned on its head. In this shot you can see the desert prison, the dish array, the desert airstrip(kinda), the desert freeway, and a few of the contours visible from the cardiving scene. Sorry if this is all old news.

I think this means LS is spread over the south of the map and everything else is north of there.

  7. Yeh, I think you're right, but I was referring to their open world games.

Yup, it looks good but to be honest I wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't seen your post.

So IGN claim to see a "dead bull and sheep with horns" at 1:28 between the trees on the opposite side of the road. I can't make it out...

Poor guys they must have been staring at this thing for longer than I have. Could be anything.

  8. I think the lake in this shot could be R*s take on the Hollywood Reservoir.

at least there's no other body of water worth mentioning in the hills and the vicinity of the observatory.

and - contrary to what IGN writes - I'm sure this is not the same lake we've seen in the first 2 screenshots released which we identified as R*s take on Echo Park, just nothing matches... curvy lakefront, no paved paths right at the water, no houses, just trees and definitely not on more or less at the same elevation as downtown

Yeah I agree. The one in the first batch of screens was somewhere near those oil pump things on the western eastern hills.

  9. On the first picture I think that line to the left on the horizon might just be the edge of the seabed map glitching out or something. Just a hunch but I never noticed it on any other shots, it should be visible from the observatory but isn't there.

I think I see the cranes on the docks in both pictures, the line is above those so it can't be the coast. I doubt it's anything too exciting anyway.

  10. Hey, I'm new here, was wondering if anyone had noticed this?

I've stuck together a full overhead panorama if it's any use, probably not..

I think the desert airport is behind the Bandito, near the satellite dishes:

Note the same sign, possibly the exact same one.

Could be, you can see an airstrip on the bottom right of the overhead shot.

I don't think it's the exact same sign because of the surroundings but it might be the same area.
