Only just heard about this. I know there aren't many sci-fi fans here, but I like the concept, so I thought I'd make a topic.

In the year 2046, it’s a new Earth – with new rules. Over thirty years after various alien races arrived on Earth, the landscape is completely altered, terraformed nearly beyond recognition. To the town of Defiance, on what used to be St. Louis, comes the mysterious Nolan (Grant Bowler) and his charge, Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas). As they settle into town – overseen by the mayor, Amanda Rosewater (Julie Benz) and filled with residents like the powerful Rafe McCawley (Graham Greene), enterprising lounge owner Kenya (Mia Kirshner) and the ambitious, alien Tarrs (Tony Curran and Jaime Murray) - events begin to unfold that threaten the fragile peace this border town has fought for.

As the events of Defiance unfold weekly on your TV screen, you can see how the residents’ struggles impact the game of Defiance, a high-octane, multi-platform experience from Trion Worlds! For the first time in history, a TV show and a game will exist concurrently in a shared universe, influencing and impacting the other!

In the game of Defiance, players take on the role of Ark Hunters, specialists in survival, combat and tracking who brave dangerous frontiers to retrieve lost relics of advanced or alien origin in return for great financial rewards (The Arks are the ships that brought the aliens to Earth). Players can search for Arks on their own, simultaneously join tens of thousands of other players for missions or just explore the fully realized, future world of Defiance (it's really, really big). Custom character creation allows players to adopt a human or alien appearance for their Ark Hunter. With weapons, armor and special abilities that evolve with experience, Defiance is a gaming experience that must be played to be believed.

Pre-Order the game now

Defiance, from the minds behind Battlestar Galactica and Caprica, debuts on Syfy on April 15 at 9/8c.

It looks more like Rage and Borderlands than Fallout, plus aliens. It has potential. I'm hoping it lives up to it, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Wholly crap, scifi channel is actually launching a science fiction series?

I dont know guys, if it was any other network i'd be more excited... Im sure theyll find a way to fuck it up like they did with Eureka and Stargate.

I'm all for Sci-Fi's. I love them. I was like the only person i know of, who enjoyed Terra Nova, and was so disappointed that they pulled it off after the first season, just when it got really interesting... This looks like it could be good. I'm not sure abut the game though. It looks like it was made in fallout 3 era. If it plays like fallout then i'll play it, if not, it doesn't seem that interesting. The TV series on the other hand, i'll probably give a chance.

I figured if anyone showed interest, the general consensus would be that the game didn't look that good, and the show did.

The game wouldn't be a release date purchase for me, so I've got plenty of time to find out all I need to.

they're giving away beta codes on the 360... haven't check out anything on the subject but i remember you starting this thread so i thought you might be interested in getting in on the beta... i'll need to know more about this game before i form an opinion in the matter...

I can't get online on my 360. I could get into the PC beta if I wanted, but, meh. The only beta I ever had interest in was The Elder Scrolls Online, and I didn't get in. WoW players are pretty much guaranteed to get into their betas, and I don't even sign up for those.

I forgot about this topic after I watched. Pretty good show. Feels a little more futuristic than post-apocalyptic, but it's pretty decent so far, and they didn't skimp on quality when it comes to effects. Will watch for as long as they can hold my attention.

So, worth watching? I missed the premiere but can probably find it before the next episode.

It's worth a shot. It seemed pretty good from what I've seen and thankfully they didn't fuck up the CGI and effects budget like most other syfy crap.

Right then, I'll see if it's re-airing before next week. So it sounds like not a single person here is jumping on the "play the game while you watch the series" bandwagon, eh?

Considering it, a couple buddy's have been vouching for the game, but I just picked up Jak X and Scarface, so I'm gonna be doin some retro gaming this month. Also, best character in this show so far has to be the doc.

"Bedrest. I said Sleep!!!! SLEEP!!!!!"

"Good human"

I completely forgot to come back here after watching it the other day. The story follows the same generic pattern as most sci-fi's though. New guy comes along with a trade skill, and helps out people in despair, which is fine, Terra Nova did this, and Falling Skies did too. Both were pretty cool. There were a few scenes where i ended up looking at the leather clad bigfoot rather than the characters talking, he was distracting lol. Apart from that, the pilot was pretty good. The end of the pilot left me wanting more, so that's the main thing.

Also, the train-restaurant with the retro music somehow reminded me of fallout.

The game is free to try on Steam for the weekend, if anyone is interested. I'm not going to make a download that big just to play for 24 hours, so there won't be a review from me.

Like I said in the OP, it's a lot like Rage or Borderlands, in terms of how the post-apocalyptic society operates. The aliens look stupid (one species just looks like albino humans). Except for the ones that look like orangutans. They're badass. The story is good, the effects are great, for a TV show, and the main characters are likeable. Also, Julie Benz is the mayor of the city, and she's hot.

Just watch it, honky. It's great.

The game is pretty meh. Gameplay overall is solid and has kind of a WoW feel to it, and the online features work great and theres almost always a time or chance for you to play with some unfamiliar people. But for the time being it‘s really buggy, and the game gets old quickly thanks to repetitiveness, an incredibly dull story and characters, and a lack of content (seeing the exact same gun with 0.1 difference in stats happens a lot).
