Has there been any mention of surfing, windsurfing, or waterskiing/wakeboarding?

Well, there is this picture:

post-14257-0-16788700-1367883804_thumb.j

And again, zoomed in:

post-14257-0-94936500-1367883837.jpg

Found this while dredging through Trevor's trailer. Also:

"Despite the carnage, this area is beautiful: the sand is ruffled, shaped by the lapping waters of the sea, sun winking in its water-slick surface, while the wave physics are some of the best we've seen in any game this generation."

That quote was take from the CVG article released May 2nd. So, with the waves physics being as authentic and realistic as possible (not to mention the fact that it's supposed to take place on the West coast, a place synonymous with surfing), we may just get surfing and wakeboarding in GTA V.

Oh, there was also this:

post-14257-0-50423800-1367883911.jpg

That could also support the theory of surfing being a practical mini-game in the next GTA.

Cheers, everyone.

Oh, while I'm still on the topic of possible mini-games, I wouldn't be surprised if mountain-climbing was an option. Consider these early screens from the famous G.I. article:

post-14257-0-86119500-1367884171.jpg

If all of the necessary animations were programmed for the trio to rappel against buildings, I would assume a mountain side would translate well with the same animations. I would hate to think that the rappelling feature would only be wasted on one mission...or not to be used anywhere else. Especially considering that there are taller peaks in the San Andreas area to climb then the skyscrapers in downtown Los Santos.

It would be really cool to negotiate certain mountainsides to reach impossible heights or areas that no roads or trails could lead to.

Only to jump off them of course...

I'm sure mountain climbing is an old idea, so, please, do not think I'm trying to claim it as my own...just personalize it...

I'd love it if we could gamble in casinos. But to be honest, I'm just happy golf's in there

A very long time ago, I thought GTA V would revolve around a native american protagonist and have a story very similar to the comic series "Scalped". It would revolve around the Native's reservation, taking place in the middle of a huge desert, far away from the temptations of Los Santos. Gambling, of course, would have to be included.

...but, that was a long time ago...

...keep this in mind buddy, one of Red Dead Redemption's most successful distractions was its version of poker. I wouldn't be surprised if Trevor, Michael, or Franklin found themselves in an illegal poker game or two come September.

GeneticallySuperior; you always have the most interesting post. thanks for the information.

I have my doubts about surfing, but I wouldn't be surprised by anything at this point.

I have high hopes that there will be some sort of gambling in this game. maybe some underground poker or fighting (like in TBOGT). CA does have legal track betting. Of course there is always the Indian casinos as GS mentioned.

Thanks GS. I expected to see surfers in and out of the water but I wasn't expecting to be able to surf. I'm intrigued by how far Rockstar will take the water activities.

Thanks for the compliment sir. I try my hardest, this forum deserves that as much from me...

Underground poker, fight-clubs, and race-tracks are certainly plausible. In fact, I love the idea of horse-races or dog-races. The latter I would like to see because we already know this will be the first GTA that includes an animal population, but tracks would be a creative way to use those animal models/animations to serve an in-game function other than littering the surrounding area for the sake of realism. Furthermore, getting involved with the seedy underworld of horse betting similar to the short-lived HBO series 'Luck' would be pretty cool, in my opinion.

I can see it now...crooked, very crooked, and yet teeny-tiny Jockeys needing there fix of favorite pharmaceuticals before a big race...

Speaking of sports and crime, one of the first things I thought of when I read that it was focusing solely on LS was the inclusion of sportspeople and teams as elements in the game. For most cities you wouldn't even entertain the idea but I thought of the Lakers (Los Santos Lochers?) in particular as being a team with the glitz and glamour of LA, plenty of rich guys, connections to A-listers and something very much associated with the image of that area of Los Angeles. Imagine the parodies and storylines R* could have come up with.

Would certainly give the team a reason to imbed their trademark brand of social satire upon the sporting world. They kind of hit along those lines with Brucie and all of his steroid usage back in Liberty City....

..or whatever it was...

Either way, I would have to agree, ever since the film 'Any Given Sunday' came out, its proven that the world of sports has a criminal/shady underbelly. Not to mention that film stars and sports stars are heralded in equal light, so the setting of a faux Hollywood...(ahem)...would be perfect to include such characters.

Solid comment, Sir!

How about High-Tech Suction Cups.

mission_impossibl_ghost_protocol_tom_cruise_review.jpg

Why couldn't we have something similar to this ^^^ for climbing buildings and cliff faces in GTA V?

Or maybe Rockstar could create a Grappling Hook Gun for reaching higher places ( like Rooftops/ Cliff Edges etc ).

With the Venice Beach Lifeguard Tower/ Headquarters pretty much being confirmed as in-game, I wonder whether there will be a Lifesaving mini game/ job included. With you rescuing drowning people by jet-ski, and/or maybe helicopter rescues for boat-crews caught in big storms and huge swells.

The 'Vespucci Beach Lifeguard Tower' is located in the eastern corner of this screenshot from the Gameplay Trailer, while the real life counterpart the 'Venice Beach Lifeguard Tower' is below that ( notice the very similar shape of the Lifeguard Towers in both pictures/ and the pier in the background ) ~

^^ ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^

Plus I was watching the Gameplay Trailer again and noticed that Trevor had a camouflage suit on when he started the Hunting Activity. And this made me wonder whether certain clothing could have an impact on the stealth of your character.

gameplay-1-trevors-place.jpg

The camouflage suit ( being different shades of green ) would obviously help in blending-in with the forest. But maybe dark or black clothing could be used to enhance your characters stealth at night.

This could end up being similar to MGS3 Snake Eater's camouflage mechanic, where stealth was directly connected to a clothing's camouflage stats and it's ability to help you remain undetected. By camouflaging you from the enemy AI's line of sight. This could be possible because GTA V's cops have been described as having a cone of vision that they use to try and find you during wanted levels ( as explained in the 'Game Informer' Preview ).

Could be cool if camouflage had an affect on Stealth during other missions and when free-roaming, and not just in the Hunting Activity...

A couple of minigames I would like to see in the game:

- Small time drug dealing w/ Trevor and Franklin for a little extra cash.

- Fight club, but improved from TBoGT

- Improved bowling game

- Gambling

- Real estate. Buy cheap houses, renovate them like in SR2 but more in depth, sell them for a profit.

- Car shows. Customize a car to make it look really badass, enter it in a car show and possibly win money.

- Not a minigame, but social media on the internet. Imagine the potential for a parody of facebook/ twitter...

- Fishing

- A couple smartphone game apps, parodies to like Angry Birds or Temple Run.

-A video game on the TV that could be like a mini zombie game or a mini CoD that's 'online' and makes fun of the douches and kids with mics that talk during games.

- Mini heists/ armed robberies to rob different businesses and stores.

I know that it is unlikely that all, if any, of these get put in the game, but I personally think they are pretty good ideas.

Man good work, so many great ideas.

With the Fight Club idea, maybe they could make it more then just an underground boxing club. Perhaps it could be a Full Contact, No Rules, Mixed Martial Arts Tournament. Where weapons can be used by both you and your opponent, and as you progress further in the tournament tougher enemies are paired up with you, they could even make it a tag team event where all three protagonists fight together against multiple enemies.

thanks. I do like the idea of using weapons such as knifes or baseball bats, but not sure if the three protags fighting would work out.

It would be tag team, they wouldn't all be fighting at the same time. Each individual Protagonist is supposed to have their own melee style, so it could be interesting switching up different characters to counter different enemy fighting styles.

^^ ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^

Also I wonder if the Cinema in the Gameplay Vid is fully functional. There was that Black and White Movie Theatre ( with no sound ) on the edge of Armadillo in Red Dead Redemption. Maybe there could be Short Rockstar made movies, satirizing contemporary movies ( like one of the superhero movies ), or funny versions of classics ( like Spaghetti Western's referencing characters in Red Dead Redemption/ or Italian Mobster movies like Goodfellas/ or old Martial Arts Movies etc ).

The Movie Theatre is on the left ( Doppler )

I bet that there are some short crime films you can watch in the theater, considering how Micheal is apparently heavily influenced in heists by old crime films.

Another possible activity would be going to a zoo, and seeing some exotic animals like tigers or fuckin giraffes. And probably a dumb idea, but maybe in a mission you would break in and kidnap some exotic animal and sell it to a buyer on the black market for a shit load of cash lol.

I like the idea of underground bear cage fighting. Also, I wonder how yoga pans out, probably for Trevor to calm the nerves.

I'd like street basketball as a minigame. Maybe even a batting cage.

I had an epiphany the other day that there was going to be a Basketball Mini-Game/ Activity in GTA V, similar to what we've already seen with the Tennis and Golf Activities. Only this one was exclusive to Franklin.

In this epiphany it's a classic Four vs Four game, on a basketball court in a Hood type area.

I don't know if its been mentioned yet, but according to the GTA 5 Official Stratergy Guide, arms-trafficking is going to be an activity. I really like this as another way to earn money. It really stresses the importance of money, if R* are giving players many ways to earn money.
