Game/Gamestation

Recommended Posts

Mafia 2 is really good, she will like it.

Spoke to my friends who owns a game distribution business today, he had a meeting with gamestop and I asked him about game, he said if anyone is going to buy it it will be them, they only have one store in Birmingham and 10 in Ireland. He said that gamestop have been wanting to expand and this could be the chance.

Share prices are at a penny, about 2 years ago they were over £2 apparently

He also said my gift cards would be worthless if they went into administration so I decided to just but whatever took my fancy.

exactly what I said. you seen the price of the consoles there? the gamestation in st helens has the 320gb Slim PS3 for £150. great time for anyone to venture into consoles for the first time

There were no bargains at all (or non left anyway), seriously. Even a dual shock PS3 controller was £50. I think I got ripped on those pre-owned games myself.

A penny? Feckin' hell, they are in the shit. And yeah Mafia 2 is something we'll both enjoy, she loves films like Casino, Goodfellas etc so the cut-scenes should make her happy. :)

Oh yeah, pics of my walk home.

gamestation seems to have more of a selection, I've been in both game and gamestation numerous times over the past two days looking for decent games and the stock numbers have started to seriously dwindle even in st helens. You got any spare change for a few shares by any chance?

Although they're the same firm GAME don't accept Gamestation gift cards and vice versa.

As for shares, I could probably scrape together 2 pennies yes but I don't really know enough about shares tbh. Don't wanna risk my 2 pence. I'm a tight bastard.

I assume the UK Game stores are related to the Australian Game stores. They opened up here a few years back, but the majority of their stores have shut down. They were just too expensive to compete with the established competition here. Our major chain, EB (owned by the American Gamestop) has shut down a few stores in my area recently. They aren't in danger of going broke, but their sales are dropping due to the far cheaper prices of online stores (Play-Asia ftw!!!), and to a lesser extent, supermarket stores.

I noticed the prices of some of those games Marney posted. What a rip-off! And I'm from the land of rip-offs.

I thought I'd check something out, using the latest major release as an example. EDIT: Game/Gamestation aren't selling Mass Effect 3. lol, there goes my fancy-pants comparison.

Prices of Mass Effect 3 (360)in USA, UK, and Australia at dedicated gaming stores, and online

Gamestop (USA)- $59.99 (38.12 GBP, $56.88 AUD)

Electronic Boutique (AUS) - $108 ($113 US, 72.38 GBP

Tesco (UK) - 38.91 GBP ($58.71 AUD, $61.23 US)

Play-Asia - $58.90 US, $55.08 AUD, 37.44 GBP

So, as you can plainly see, the prices in the US and UK, both in store and online are roughly similar, while we Australians get the old Joan Collins special if we buy in store. As our online stores are no cheaper, we are forced to import our games. So I can understand if the retail gaming industry kerplunks down here, but you northerners have no excuse. Imagine if you had to pay over $100 or 70 pounds for a new game?

Btw, I'm calling on you guys to start a Kony-like campaign to force Gamestop/EB to bring their Australian prices in line with their American ones.

About 15 years back we had Electronic Boutique's scattered across England, and i think GAME bought them out, now the tables have turned and Gamespot is gonna make a return in our country.

I went up city today and looked in both Gamestation, and Game, and to be honest, like Marney i didn't find many decent sale items left. I did pick up Deus Ex for just under £8, which I think was an okay deal, but the majority of pre-owned games are crap. I thought they were doing discounts on new games too, obviously not.

I'm still gonna carry on buying games from Asda though, i always get new games for around £30 on release.

Some of the new games are discounted but not by too much. I think its because most of them are on credit and the suppliers would want the stock back when they go into admin.

I also picked up eyepet for my Son for only £2.98, but it's shit, and he even hated it lol, he kept hitting it with his toy lightsaber. He put Lego Starwars straight back into the PS3. Not much loss, so i don't mind.

GAME have officially filed for administration.

Check out comments from staff members:

My experience with GAME/Gamestation staff is that a few seem to know their shit but most are as thick as cow pat. I'm glad I spent those vouchers I had anyway, the store assistant told me they'd be no good once they go into administration. :D

*Aaa-hem*

I still have £30 or £40 worth of vouchers. :)

I'd spend them asap, if they go into admin then they might not accept vouchers. I believe someone got dj hero with the decks for £13 according to a few posts on twitter.

You deserve no thanks. Not after letting a St. Helens scrote steal that R* sticker off your Corsa.

All these stores will close at some point. Eventually all games, films, & music will be download only and stores like game, blockbusters, and hmv will only excist online, if at all.

Game, Music and Film are the biggest money making business's in the world. There will always be an online presence in terms of shopping, even if the physical stores close down in the high streets. Most stores that go into admin end up setting up a dedicated online store alone anyway. Woolworths, Zavvi, etc.

Marney, sounds like Mafia 2 was worth it.

It is now considering my gift cards would have now been worthless. I'm really enjoying the game actually.
