What role would you folks have in an apocalypse? I like to think since I have no bug out location I'd take the role of a pirate radio type person. I'd also run a website where people can radio in or something and give a general location of where they are and what they have, to create small communes of survivors.

You got me thinking, how cool would it be to play a game where you're trapped on a giant cruiser ship with a load of zombies, all the life boats have been deployed and you have to make your way to the bridge for SOS and possibly taking control of it! Classic George Romero style, but in game form!

Survival horror game from publisher Ubisoft, developed by Darkworks. In Cold Fear, players step into the role of Tom Hansen, a U.S. Coast Guard who is sent to board a drifting Russian whaling ship in the middle of a howling storm on the Bering Sea, and there discovers that there is no safe place here. On this constantly rocking and shifting ship and a mysterious oil rig, you must turn the interactive surroundings to your advantage to take down human enemies – and enemies that aren't human any more - and save your own life.

Let's see, where shall I start? First of all, I live in Texas, so I got a closet full of guns plus all my big game rifles and general ammunition in a storage unit a block away from my house. I'm pretty well set. I have a large backpack used for hunting/hiking, so in the event that I have to leave my home, I'll have plenty of room for food and water. For transportation, I'll ride my Yamaha. 600 CCs, off road capable, extremely gas efficient, even has a metal saddlebag for extra storage. As for weapons, I would carry a 12 gauge and a 30.06 lever action rifle on my back, and probably my m1911 in my holster. In the event I run out of ammo, the cartridges and shells for these weapons are fairly common. As for a group, I would probably hole up with some of my friends from school. As for a role, I guess I'd be a mechanic. I like to believe I'm good with mechanicals after all I've done to my el camino.

Intel:

The original slow Zombies for me cause imma purist haha

Refuge:

Where you will hold up.

Hmmmm probably work cause i'll aready be there..... Multiple Reinforced Exits plus one service ladder that leads to The roof for an Air SOS(Zombies can't climb shit!!!!) wide, flat and sturdy enough to land a helicopter onto...Staff quarters upstairs with magnet key only doors which i have!!! Enough room to hold at least 100 upstairs Easy to lockdown (Aluminium Roller Sliders on display windows/doors, Gated outer dock) the only problem being dealing with Zombies in the Supermarket when living in a Supermarket in Nz with basically no firearms, shit loads of Knives and Bats though...

Rationing:

What you will do when you run out of food & water.

Should the power be on there are 4 Freezer containers and 5 Chiller containers and Countless Dislplay freezers and fridges... if not, we got plenty of salt that we can use to preserve the freshmeats and enough dry food in store feed 100 on max rationing for i;m guessing 6 months probably longer than what it takes for help to arrive.. we have batteries and Basic Medical supplies so yeah..

Defence/Offence:

Onlydownside.... we sell knives and Sportsbats and there's plenty of cleavers and machetes in the back for food prep, but we got no guns.....

Refuge:

Where you will hold up.

Switzerland,they are always neutral

Haha didn't know some countries were pro-zombie

In terms of weapons and food; I already have a machete, crowbar and various kitchen implements and I always keep a good stock of canned food so would grab as many as I could fit in my backpack. There is a sports/camping shop on the edge of my town that I could loot on the way out. I think the best bet would be to head away from populated areas, so I would head off into the countryside and hunt for food. Also, guns are fairly fucking useless; they attract way to much attention. In terms of projectile weapons, bows and crossbows are preferable.

Ever wanted to get a heads up on any lethal viruses or diseases near you? I found this website called HealthMap. Obviously it wouldn't be good to anyone in the event of an apocalypse, but at least you can view what's happening before shit hits the fan.

Check it out:

http://www.healthmap.org

Apparently there is a bit of an outbreak of Norovirus around England at the moment. I've never heard of it before though.

Looking at Germany, looks like they got an anthrax alert going down.

Intel:

My kind of zombies will be the romero/TheWalkingDead zombie,

*Slow

*All Human instinct gone

*Slightly more active at night(but impaired vision)

*Dangerous in large numbers.

*Sense of smell still remains.

* easily confused by obstacles

Refuge:

My home is not safe. easily accesble from ground level making it prone to zombie attacks.

But I can promise you my place of refuge is the best you could wish for in this situation.

I will explain why. It is a mill(Factory)(disused)

Location: 300yards from my home so easily accesable in the case of an outbreak.

Security: 20ft Concrete walls all around, 300ft from main building, one huge gated

entrace, Electric fence between main building and outer perimeter wall. The building itself

has Steel shutters on both sides of the windows(will be shut at all times), Has large towers

ideal sniper/lookout posts(one tower on each corner of the building).

Power: Has its own methane pumps at the back from the rice growing fields at the allotments at the back when the rice is sustained it produces enough methane for 2200kj/e per 10 Square feet there is 102 square feet at the back of the mill and 58 square feet for vegatable growth. your average house hold uses about 300kj/e a day. which converts to about 10,000V for use(cooking, heating, etc.)

Water: There is a fresh water canal just 50 - 70 yards from the back of the perimeter wall. We could boil it to make it purer but its perfectly safe anyway.

Entrance: there is one gated entrance to the property that's it way in one way out. (at ground level anyway)

It is an old WW2 weapons producing mill so there is a secret escape tunnel leading onto some farmers field. The door

to the escape route can only be opened from the inside.

Rationing:

We would ration food lightly but it would not be a problem because with the vegetable allotment

at the back of the property we would not go hungry, there is also a costco just outside the perimeter wall so in winter we could get tinned goods if necessary, there is also a smaller supermarket 200 yards out side the property.

Defence/Offence:

Defence: The Place where I will be seeking refuge is build like a fort due to a lot a vandalism as stated in the Refuge section.

Offence Me and My girlfriend own two 9mm Bereatta 92fs with about 200 rounds of ammo each.(present from her gun nut brother),

and a beretta 1201fp semi automatic shot gun with about 400 rounds, Blaser R93 Tactical which was my fathers. this gun shoots:.

6mm Norma BR

6.5x55mm

7.62x51mm NATO

.300 Winchester Magnum

.338 Lapua Magnum

6mm Norma BR

6.5x55mm

7.62x51mm NATO

.300 Winchester Magnum

.338 Lapua Magnum

So coming across amunition for this gun wouldn't be too hard, plus a shitty 22. rifle i've since i was 13.

I would have my melee weapon as a light aluminium garden spade can deliver fatal blunt blows or can slice.

Intel:

I believe the 'zombies' would be like the ones in 28 Days Later. They wouldn't be reanimated corpses as such, but humans with a disease that just makes them go fucking crazy. They would probably just shuffle around until they see something move and then chase it. They wouldn't have a superhuman sense of smell or amazing eyesight either.

Refuge:

The best thing to do at the beginning of a zombie apocalypse, or any apocalypse, would just be to lay low inside your home for the first week or so. During that time will be when all the people are running riot and looting stores and stealing from others and getting themselves infected.

My house is relatively safe I guess. I live in a town with a population of 11,000 people. I don't live too close to any major roads but I do live close to a small police station and that may be a place where dumb people rush to for safety, and there is also a small gun shop behind my house and a petrol station. I live in the UK so it's only shotguns and the like. Nothing fancy.

I don't know where I'll be at the time of the outbreak so who knows who I'll be with or where I'll be at the time. Hopefully I'm at home. I would try and group up with my best friend who lives about 10 minutes away. I'm not sure if my sister and mother would be a liability or not, most likely though...

Once my supplies run out I would break into buildings near my location and try to find more. If my neighbours are still alive then I'm sure we could work something out. The majority of them are 50+ anyway so there aren't many dangerous people nearby.

Once I know exactly what kind of situation I am in I will then start to plan more for the future. Such as finding a more suitable place to live, etc.

Rationing:

I kinda went over what I would do once I run out of supplies/food above so I'll leave that out.

I believe that the most important food supplies would be things that last for years, such as tinned beans, frozen food (at the beginning of the outbreak) etc. The power grid would probably eventually go down.

Defence/Offence:

I would just go to my shed and look for the best weapons there as there's not much cool shit you can buy in the UK. The best it gets here is shotguns and air rifles. Unless you can find illegal firearms but I'm not in the city...

I would try my best to board up my home with pieces of wood that is also kept in the shed. I have some crappy wooden summerhouse too which I would take apart and use to board up windows and the front door.

Mutant rabies, flu viruses could lead to havoc.

June 25: The rabies season has just receded. And it’s time now for the human influenza or common cold to make our lives miserable. Rabies and the common cold, though their effects on our health are very different, are both caused by viruses and there is no known medical cure for either. While the common cold subsides within a week without causing much harm, rabies has always proved to be lethal. Of late, with rabies and influenza, particularly the type of influenza caused by the H1N1 virus, creating panic in the state, scientists took time off to imagine the sort of scenario we see in those Hollywood flicks in which viruses mutate or hybridise to emerge as dangerous pathogens. The question they are now asking is: what happens if rabies and the influenza viruses exchange their genetic make-up and emerge as a new hybrid strain that has the properties of both rabies and flu pathogens?

Continue reading :here:

Is about a year old, but quite an interesting read. I heard about something like to this a few years ago, and I think 28 Days Later is sort of based on something along these lines. Although it isn't the classic zombie virus, it's still the closest thing we could expect to a zombie outbreak in the near future.

Essential Watching:

Doomsday Preppers

Doomsday Bunkers {Preppers but for 1%ers. basically rich motherfuckers buy bunkers and it shows how they're made, not as good but still worth watching}

After Armageddon ("Specialists" talk about an influenza pandemic that dramatically lowers the populace, causes marauders etc, basically fallout, with a nice story inbetween following a family involved)

Apocalypse Man (Former marine and survival dude shows how to survive in urban environment)

Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura

Doomsday Bunkers is an incredibly valuable source of information. I now know exactly where to go and who to attack and rob if the shit goes down. If a rich asshole is dumb enough to build a bunker near me, he deserves to have me take it from him.

I have yet to see anyone on these shows who doesn't have holes in their security, mentality, or overall strategy.

The biggest hole is MAKING YOURSELF KNOWN.

These guys give away where they live, where everything is and who they are. I'd wear a balaclava, have the outside of my house not shown and my voice masked.

I'm not sure why they do the show in the first place. They have nothing to gain from it. I mean, I like watching the shows, but if those people were smart, the shows wouldn't even exist, because no one would be on.

So, Max Brooks, who knows how a real zombie would act and function, writes World War Z. It is adapted into a film, and the creators ignore his wisdom and make the zombies running, jumping, climbing, tidal waves of flesh.

Fucking stupid.

The pinnacle of prepper bullshit came on S04E04 of doomsday preppers.

Firstly, dude is prepping side by side with another family, unfortunately he HIMSELF states he finds his fellow prepper to be a little odd (he is fucking weird, would expect him to shoot the ranch they're bugging to on). Secondly theres a scene where this "pro" prepper has his friend shoot his rifle with a special barrle in a small enclosed area, aparantly he's surprised when it's LOUD AS FUCK and gives him temperary deafness, and begins whinging about it. He sounds a dead ringer for Peewee Herman and begins crying that he cant prep with the other guy. All the while the voice over states his ear protectors werent enough (so ergo he wasnt prepared?). Then in the end he decides to give in and continues to prep with him. The guy was a total noob when it came to safety.

Just a thought, but i guess it's kind of relevant. If we were to have some sort of outbreak that could cause harm to humanity, would we be alerted, or would it be left to chance? I know that's a bit of a conspiratorial question, but a zombie outbreak isn't exactly on the cards.

Also, what does your (air-raid) siren's sound like in your region? I know each nation have their own military sirens in place, Army, RAF, Naval etc... It's be cool to hear different pitch in sirens. I would like to know which one sounds the most fearful also. I found a couple on youtube.

German:

British:

US:

lol @ the first one

NATO Russia:

Taiwan:

China:
